TOTAL SCIFI ONLINE: Aidan Turner: Shadow of the Vampire

With a history replete with murder, battle and sudden death, vampire John Mitchell continues to give Aidan Turner plenty to sink his teeth into. He tells Paul Simpson why the third series is a “rollercoaster ride..."

... Q: How much do you think the writers have pulled from Aidan into Mitchell?

AT: A lot. I could see in the second series that things changed. It became more fluid and easier. Now there are words and phrases popping up that we throw around on set. We call each other certain things, which has influenced Toby. It keeps it close to home and keeps it in a more organic place. It helps him and helps us.

Q: The American version’s vampire is called Aidan – was that a surprise?

AT: Yes, it was. I didn’t know. I guess it’s a little weird, but it’s flattering if it is for me… it doesn’t matter if it isn’t. It’s just a name, I don’t own it! It doesn’t really affect me at all.

Being Human (3) is currently airing on Sunday nights on BBC Three.

While "shippers" may still be holding out for Penny and Leonard to get back together someday, the relationship that matters most in terms of pure comic gold is the one between Sheldon and Penny. (Cue up a rendition of "Soft Kitty," please.) In this episode, kicking off the February sweeps month, Sheldon asks Penny, a famously failed actress wannabe, to give him acting lessons in hopes of becoming a more effective teacher. If you think Sheldon is going to be an easy student, think again...

If tonight's title, ''Red Alert,'' makes you think the show is delving back into its best story line — about Red John, the serial killer who murdered the wife and daughter of police consultant Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) — you'll be disappointed. Instead, the threat level barely reaches a pale yellow in this episode as Jane sets out to help investigate the death of a small-town political filmmaker. When Baker can't even fully commit to masking his Australian accent, why should viewers commit either? B- — Meeta Agrawal

(Wednesday, 10/9c, CBS)

As the family-oriented police drama continues its successful limited run on Wednesdays, it's a big episode for Donnie Wahlberg's hot-blooded Danny Reagan. His father, and boss, Frank (Tom Selleck) assigns his detective son to solve the shooting of an undercover counter-terrorism agent — presumably not Jack Bauer — with sworn-to-secrecy orders as well as the mandate not to interfere in the activities of the sleeper cell the agent had infiltrated. Can Danny keep his cool?

Why must the woman be the one to spend so much time being romantically anguished, while the guys just accept that, as Josh the werewolf says, ''we're not quite real, are we?'' C+ —Ken Tucker

Syfy has struck gold with this U.K. adaptation, which follows a vampire, a werewolf, and a ghost as they try to fit in with all us nonmonsters. Tonight, ghost Sally learns to harness her considerable powers from a fellow spirit, while werewolf Josh makes friends when he joins a neighborhood watch. Just don't schedule him for any night with a full moon, unless you want your neighborhood trashed.
